Halloween parties are all about fun, costumes, and eating all of the candy corn bowls situated throughout the house without getting busted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minus the candy corn gluttony, being a great guest makes the party even better. Here are five simple tips to help you be the guest everyone\u2019s happy to invite back next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. RSVP on Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Put yourself in the shoes of the host\u2014would you want to be left hanging after sending out the party invitations? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably not, right? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosts need a headcount to plan food, drinks, and space, so giving them a timely response is, you know, the respectful thing to do. It also helps avoid any last-minute surprises, like running out of snacks, liquor, or squeezing in extra chairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, do your host a favor and let them know if you\u2019re in or out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Stick to the Costume Theme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two biggest Halloween party faux pas you can commit are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Not coming in costume<\/li>
  2. Wearing a costume that has nothing to do with the party theme<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Arriving as a plainclothes party-goer is just lazy, and coming as Borat if the theme is classic horror makes you look like a contrarian. Plus, it sends the message that you didn\u2019t care enough to join in on the fun, and, in addition to no costume or an irrelevant one, that\u2019s never a good look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Don\u2019t Arrive Empty-Handed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    This tip works for just about any gathering, but especially for Halloween parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Even if your host insists they don\u2019t need anything, it\u2019s always a nice gesture to bring a small gift. It could be a bottle of wine, some Halloween-themed snacks, a fun party favor for the host, or a BasketWorks gift basket\u2026oops, too soon for the shameless plug!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If the host says, \u201cMake yourself at home,\u201d don\u2019t take them up on that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Respect the host\u2019s space\u2014don\u2019t leave a trail of candy wrappers, props, or empty bottles of Zima behind. If there are specific rules like “no drinks in the living room” or “shoes off at the door,” make sure to follow them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Clean up after yourself, especially if you\u2019ve made a mess. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    5. Be Mindful of the Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Don\u2019t wear out your welcome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Honor the expression, \u201cYou don\u2019t have to go home, but you gotta get outta here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As much as your host wants everyone to have a blast, they probably don\u2019t want the party to go all night. Keep an eye on the time, and when it\u2019s starting to wind down, say your goodbyes and thank the host before heading out. If you\u2019re close with the host, offering to help clean up can be a huge bonus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
